Thank you for visiting our Virtual Field of Honor®
For the past two years, the Rotary Club of Green Valley, in partnership with the City of Henderson and USO – Las Vegas, has sponsored a very special event. Each Memorial Day weekend, a breathtaking display of 1000 full-size American flags, each representing a “hero”, flew throughout Cornerstone Park in Henderson. It was a fitting way to show the community how fortunate we are to live and work here. Memorial Day weekend 2020 would have been the third year that we would present the Field of Honor®.
Unfortunately, the city has closed all parks until further notice, so our club is instead presenting a Virtual Field of Honor® this year. As a service organization, we recognize that countless heroes in our lives often fail to receive the recognition they deserve. Especially now, with the Covid-19 virus shutting down our local community and the entire world, there are countless heroes that deserve to be recognized.
In the past, we have focused on military, first responders, and the victims of the 1 October shooting. This year, in light of the pandemic, we will also recognize paramedics, nurses, doctors, truck drivers, grocery store workers, delivery drivers, teachers, hospitals, our neighbors and the many other heroes who have stepped forward to help.
Despite the park closure, we still wish to honor our heroes and we will present the Virtual Field of Honor® on this Rotary Club website for a full year. For each flag sold to honor a hero, the information for that hero will be posted online May 2020 – May 2021.
Then, on Memorial Day weekend 2021, a live Field of Honor® will once again take place at Cornerstone Park and we will recognize your hero among the 1,000 3’ x 5’ flags displayed identifying each of these individuals or groups. After the 2021 Field of Honor®, your hero will receive the flag flown in their Honor.
Please join us this year to honor those who have risked themselves to keep us safe.
